Teaching Your Kids Early About Charity and How They Can Help

There is great value in teaching your kids about charity from an early age. This is because understanding and being actively involved in charitable causes is a great way to develop empathy, which is something that children will be able to use well into adulthood. Being genuinely empathetic to the feelings and living conditions of others, from a local to a global scale, is not only essential to being a good person, it’s also necessary for both adults and children to function in social situations. In fact, The Conversation points out that developing empathy allows children to better navigate social scenarios, as well as avoid social traumas that may lead to mental or emotional problems in adulthood.

The best way for children to learn about charity is first-hand experience, and the easiest way to do this is to start at home. This can be done in the simple but powerful act of joining a charity car boot sale. Various charitable organisations like the Low Mill Outdoor Centre, the New Dawn Educational Centre, and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance have benefited a lot from the profits made through car boots sales. For your children, every sale is an example of how simply taking care of the stuff at home can contribute to different causes. By explaining to them how the proceeds of the items they sold go to good causes, you can also impart lessons in avoiding waste, the global value of reusing items to limit consumption, as well as how to declutter your home.

Car boot sales may also pave the way for larger charitable actions, such as organising a birthday party where in lieu of gifts, you can ask your child’s friends or classmates to bring donations to children’s welfare organisations instead. This is another great way to start your lessons on charity at home. You can also consult charitable organisations for ideas, because more often than not, they’re more than willing to assist anyone who’s willing to extend a helping hand.

In fact, nowadays, charities have made it easier for every member of the family to join in on the action by offering a variety of undertakings. These can range from active events like fun runs, group walks, and cycle rides to simple activities that everyone can join in with.Save the Children have a dedicated Christmas Jumper Day, which takes a traditional festive concept and applies it to a good cause. This is perfect for families who want to help but don’t have the time to leave their home. Not only can children easily take part in these events, they’ll also be getting a practical lesson in the variety of ways charitable actions can raise awareness for certain issues. With your guidance, you can even allow your child to research on their own and see which charities they themselves want to be involved in.

Remember that the earlier kids learn about charity, the more they’ll be able to take these lessons well into their adult lives. For more insights on raising a healthy family, check out our article on The Next Generation.

How Long Should I Swaddle My Baby

baby swaddle

Baby Swaddling

Since time began, parents have swaddled their babies. Mums and Dads through the generations have wrapped their babies up before putting them down to sleep. So what is swaddling?

What is Baby Swaddling?

It’s an age-old method for making baby feel safe, secure and ready for sleep. When a baby is born they have a startle-reflex which can make them jump all of a sudden in their sleep. But if baby is tightly-wrapped in a lovely comfy baby swaddle then he or she won’t be jerked awake by these perfectly natural sleep ‘twitches’!

If you wrap your baby snugly in a baby swaddle blanket then it will create a kind of light pressure all around his body. And it is this sensation which magically mirrors the feeling baby once had when in your womb. This makes baby feel safe and relaxed and usually sleepy.

We mustn’t forget that there are always exceptions to every rule and not all babies are the same. So yes, not all babies like being swaddled, regardless of how fancy an organic baby swaddle blanket you have. You could buy the softest bamboo swaddle out there, but some babies just don’t settle when swaddled. Fortunately though, the vast majority do like the sensation of being cuddled closely. And with a bit of luck your baby will hopefully be one of these.

The Lullaby Trust have some guidelines which they suggest parents follow when swaddling their baby.

Swaddling Your Baby

  • Don’t swaddle baby above the shoulders
  • Don’t swaddle too tightly.
  • Keep an eye on baby’s temperature and don’t let them over-heat.
  • Use a swaddle made of a thin material
  • Do NOT place a swaddled baby down to sleep on their front!

How Long Should I Swaddle My Baby

There isn’t exactly a set age to stop swaddling. Some babies will love being swaddled for a long time whereas others may get frustrated by having their movement restricted when they’re as young as two months. Baby’s safety is paramount however and as soon as your baby is able to roll over onto their front, you must think about stopping swaddling. If a baby can’t roll back onto their back then it is unsafe.

How Do I Stop Swaddling?

Try to get baby used to a few different sleep ‘triggers’ such as a warm bath, soft music and a feed in a dim room. A baby with a good sleep / bedtime routine will settle more easily without a swaddle. Swaddle less tightly in the run-up to stopping swaddling and perhaps leave baby’s arms out and only swaddle from the chest down. You may have a few nights where baby is less settled but it will soon pass.

Most mums who swaddle swear by it, but as I said above, it’s very much up to you the parent or your baby. Happy Swaddling!

Is Bamboo Really Green?

Is Bamboo Really Green?

Bamboo baby clothes, bamboo bowls, bamboo this and bamboo that – bamboo really is ‘in’ at the moment. The thing is, most of us don’t really know anything about bamboo at all. As far as we are concerned, bamboo used to be just that stuff that pandas eat and that’s about it. Now that more of us are trying to adopt a more eco-friendly lifestyle, however, we are being confronted with all manner of bamboo products. I mean, how many of our mothers bought ‘bamboo baby leggings’? Not many I bet! But new generations of mums and dads want green baby and ethical baby products and don’t want to contribute to ruining the planet for their children and grandchildren.

So is bamboo really green?

Are organic bamboo clothes as eco-friendly as other organic baby clothes, for example? Well the thing about bamboo is that it grows incredibly quickly and one of the features which makes it particularly appealing is that buying bamboo products means you are actually saving water! Cotton crops need loads of water to grow. The amount of water one person alone will drink in three years, is how much water it takes ust to make just one T-shirt! So if you want to help to conserve water, then buy bamboo! And with climate change and the resultant global warming, water conservation is going to become even more important in the future.

organic baby clothes

organic baby clothes

Did you know too that bamboo has a negative carbon footprint? Picture a forest of random trees. Now imagine a forest of bamboo trees. Incredibly, the bamboo forest will produce 35% more oxygen than the other forest and this is what gives bamboo its negative carbon footprint. And whilst the bamboo goes about producing all this oxygen, it absorbs over 12 tons of CO2 per hectare – way more efficient and eco-friendly than your average hardwood tree!

Another important feature bamboo has is that it doesn’t need nasties like insecticides or pesticides to grow. This means that bamboo crops are safer for the environment and for the farm-workers handling the end product.

The method of making, let’s say, organic cotton clothes and bamboo baby clothes is pretty much the same and so are the effects on the environment. What it all boils down too though is that although bamboo doesn’t have a particularly green manufacturing process, everything else about bamboo is significantly more environmentally friendly. It is without doubt grown and produced in a renewable and sustainable way.

So in brief, bamboo is green because it

  • grows naturally
  • grows fast
  • is kind to skin
  • is 100% biodegradable
  • Is antibacterial
  • doesn’t need much water to grow
  • is sustainable

What Can You Do About Baby boy pyjamas Right Now

Baby boy pyjamas are designed to be literally the comfiest garments available, since it’s only practical to be comfortable when we sleep. Whether they’re trendy or not is a hotly debated topic, but there appear to be tons of celebs willing to brave the controversy and wear them out in public.

Mischa Barton firmly jumped on the celebrity Primp bandwagon with this pony thermal set from the brands popular pyjama rang. Primp thermals have also been spotted on Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson and Paris Hilton, all of whom don them as outerwear.

A rather more up market take on the trend now as the lovely Jessica Alba takes the notion of dressing comfortably a step too far by arriving to a premiere in what looked suspiciously like a pair of silk baby boy pyjamas. The actress donned this bizarre ensemble, which may be from Dolce & Gabbana’s spring/summer ’09 collection, but looked more like sleepwear to us. Too chic for sleep I suppose.

Miley Cyrus was spotted heading to pilates proudly posing for paparazzi and fans in her baby pyjamas. The Hannah Montana star has been photographed in this fetching pair on several occasions, including this week leaving her hotel in London.

Guy Ritchie went public with his latest romance when he was photographed in his baby boy pyjamas bidding farewell to British model Jacqui Ainsley in the street outside his London home. The director confirmed his romance with the beauty after he was seen kissing her goodbye in front of onlookers outside his house while still dressed in his classic stripy sleepwear.

Katy Perry toasts her chart-topping success with a bottle of champagne. Mrs Russell Brand tweeted: “Celebrating all the love from the #1’s around the world in my new South Park pj’s on the bus!” Jim-jamming on the tour bus, celebs lead hard lives.

Beyonce waved at fans and photographers from the balcony of her Rio de Janeiro, Brazil hotel earlier this month while still dressed in pyjamas baby. The tiny pop star wore a tiny ensemble of short and crop top to cope in the sweltering Rio heat. Perfect summer sleepwear.

Whatever your celebrity inspiration, make sure you choose quality nightwear perfect for balmy spring nights. Hush’s elegant nightwear is cut with the utmost attention to detail ensuring our easy chic stables are both superbly flattering and comfortable. Their soft fabrics will have you snoozing like a baby in no time.

Cuddly and Soft to Fun and Funky Baby Girl Clothes Sale

Baby gifts can be anything from useful baby items for the home to clothing for the child. One of the problems many people have known what to buy that will both be functional and appreciated by the parents.

If you don’t feel like picking out a toy or having to struggle to know what the child already has, consider Baby girl clothes sale. What you’ll discover is clothing will always be appreciated.

Parents love the gift of clothing for one main reason: it’s expensive to buy enough clothes for a child who will simply outgrow them in a few months. In other words, buying just one or two outfits will save parents some money and allows their child to look as stylish and cute as they can be.

However, what type of Baby girl clothes sale should you buy? Consider these five tips for choosing the best options possible.

baby Girls clothes sale

Buy very soft and comfortable clothing as a new born gift. At this young age, you need to have baby clothes that are easy to use and highly comfortable.

Consider specialized items with the child’s name on them. These items are likely to be passed down for years.

Go for the funky look. Choose an outfit that is too funky or cute to be passed up. Every child needs something that is fun to wear.

Look for specialized gifts. For example, you can give parents a baby Christmas gift of clothing, but if it will have a Christmas theme, give it to them well before the holiday itself, otherwise it won’t be worn.

Think about quality and size. When buying Baby girl clothes sale, you want to ensure that they’re going to fit well now and for the months to come.

Buying Baby girl clothes sale Properly

When purchasing baby clothes sale, keep in mind the sizes may be in a month’s range based on the child’s age, but most babies don’t wear clothing within that range. For example, many children who are age 12 months will already be growing beyond that and will need size 18 months instead. Try to buy one size bigger.

You Can Be Unique

Remember, too, that when you buy baby gifts it’s okay to buy items that are really unique and off the wall. Look for Baby girl clothes sale as a gift because they’ll help to bring a smile to the face of the parents and will be cherished for years to come.

baby boys trousers

Combat Baby Boys Trousers

I first bought a pair of DPM trousers a year or two ago to replace a pair of M65 baby boys trousers I had worn out. I had not owned a pair of DPM combats before but I was so impressed with the cut and quality that I have subsequently bought two further pairs.

These combats are a polyester cotton mix in DPM 95 camouflage and are available in a wide variety of sizes so if you are looking to buy a pair you are likely to find a pair that fits you from one source or another. Of course pockets are important in any pair of baby boys trousers and these DPMs have two expanding bellows pockets on the leg, two waist pockets and a rear pocket.

baby boys trousers

As I said, these combats are a polyester cotton mix and felt pretty tough when I felt the material for the first time. After over a year’s worth of wear I am pleased to say that they have not suffered from the miles of hiking and rough camping I have inflicted on them. In fact they look good enough to be worn out with a t-shirt as an alternative to jeans.

A draw string waist cord and 2 inch belt loops ensures that a good fit to exactly suit the wearer is easily possible. There are also drawstrings around the ankles which mean that the baby boy trousers can be bloused around boots.

Although I bought my first pair from a local surplus store it is possible to find these combats online in a variety of army surplus stores, many at discounted prices.

Comfortable yet hardwearing, these military baby girl trousers are suitable for a wide range of activities from hiking and camping, through to work wear and fashion wear. I would certainly recommend them to anyone wanting a versatile pair of combats.
